If your taste in art is for the more modern, you will find an impressive selection of contemporary art in the Tate Modern, where permanent exhibitions are complemented by temporary exhibitions by top current artists such as Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. In addition to these there are the National Portrait Gallery, the Hayward Gallery and the Royal Academy of Art.

Many of these London Museums have free entry, as do many of the museums, where you will be able to spend many happy hours, with or without children. You could easily spend a whole day in both the Science Museum, which exhibits the major scientific advances of the last 300 years, or the Natural History Museum, famous for its collection of dinosaurs, as well as a life sized model of a blue whale. However, don't forget either the Victoria and Albert Museum, which houses an amazing collection of artifacts from around the world, or the British Museum, where, among many other things, you can see Egyptian mummies and the Rosetta Stone. Both museums will enthrall adults and children alike. All of the museums and art galleries mentioned have excellent cafe facilities on site, which means that you can break your exploration of the extensive collections, rest your aching feet and enjoy a cup of coffee, before resuming your tour.
